"KITCHEN TABLE TRAINING" MULTIPLIES IN BELARUS
Twelve pastors and church planters are participating in new cycles
of "Kitchen Table Training" in Belarus. The "kitchen
table" approach equips church planters in the context of a
small group, encouraging interaction and discussion. The role
of the trainer is to lead the dialogue by asking questions based
on the content of Omega
Course. Trainees digest the material and learn how to apply
it to their church planting initiatives through conversation around
the kitchen table (or similar context) rather than through classroom
lectures.
" . . . the more we experienced the training, the more we
began to see it work. We found our thinking challenged and we
began to learn from one another."
This was the reaction of one Belarusian pastor who was exposed
to the Kitchen Table Training idea for the first time in early
February.
As part of the introduction of this approach, Ken Dunkerley (Christian & Missionary
Alliance) and SteveReece (International
Mission Board) equipped several Belarusian trainers, launching
three additional training cycles in new regions of Belarus.
The Belarusian Baptist Union hopes to adopt the kitchen table strategy
for additional planters if it proves effective in helping establish
new churches.
